Who is eligible for WIC?

Eligibility for WIC

You may be eligible for WIC services if you satisfy the following criteria:
     A. Live in Washington state
     B. Are one of the following:
          • Pregnant
          • Breastfeeding a baby under 1 year of age
          • Less than 6 months postpartum
          • A child under the age of 5
     C. Satisfy the income requirements specified here

Parents, step-parents, guardians, and foster parents of children under the age of 5 can apply for their children.
If you have a job or if you have private health insurance, you can still apply for WIC.
You do not have to be married to apply for WIC.

What about fathers?
Fathers of children under the age of 5 are encouraged to enroll their children in the WIC program. Just like any other parent or guardian, fathers can bring their children to appointments, attend nutrition classes, and receive and redeem benefits for their children. Active participation by fathers is a great help in keeping WIC children healthy.

What about foster parents?
Foster parents are eligible to receive WIC benefits for foster children, regardless of income.

If you have any questions or concerns about eligibility, please contact the WIC office at (206) 461-6949.
